Agnes Elizabeth Jacobs Johns of Waynesville, GA died Monday (Dec. 14, 2009) at Hospice of the Golden Isles Jolly House, Brunswick, following a lengthy illness. Born in Brantley Co, GA, her parents were William Henderson Jacobs and Marguerite Mattox Jacobs. She is preceded in death by her husband Ernest Carroll Johns, Sr. and a son, Craig Johns. She was Teacher for the Brantley County School System for 18 years and a Mail Carrier for the Waynesville Post Office until her retirement. She was a member of the DAR, Red Hats Society, Wecare Ministry and the Golden Isles Walk to Emmaus. She served as Vice-President of the United Daughters of The Confederacy, Georgia Division, Lawton-Gordon-Evans Brigade, Chapter # 2637, Nahunta, Georgia. She enjoyed crocheting and painting and was a member of Waynesville Baptist Church. She is survived by her 5 children and their spouses, Ernie and Helen Johns, Jr. of Brunswick, GA, Pam and Glynn Harper of Waynesville, GA, Kyle and Anita Johns of Waynesboro, GA, Byron and Jennifer Johns of Waynesville, GA and Seia and Curtis Tompkins of Waynesville, GA; Grandchildren, Angela Summerville, Eddie Summerville, Brandy and Daniel Ratliff, Kristi and Stephen Thompson, Ashley and Shaunda Harper, Amber and Clay Culpepper, Holly Johns, Pvt. Josh Johns, Carrie and Andrew Smith, Caleb Johns, Sarah Grace Tomkins and Makenzie Johns; Great Grandchildren, Ryan Ratliff, Garrett Harper, Griffin Harper, Grayson Thompson, Elijah and Evan Smith; 4 Sisters and a brother-in-law, Emily and Allen McMurphy of Richford, Vermont, Mert Dowling of Nahunta, Shirleen Thornton and Ruth Reddish both of Waynesville; a Brother and sister-in-law, Rev. William and Mavis Jacobs of Waycross, GA; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be Wednesday evening starting at 6:00 p.m. at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Waynesville Baptist Church with Rev. Vance Colley and Rev. William Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Waynesville. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ashley Harper, Pvt. Joshua Johns, Caleb Johns, Andrew Smith, Stephen Thomson, Daniel Ratliff, Clay Culpepper and Eddie Summerville.
