Babe 'Boots' Ruth Hayes

Babe Ruth "Boots" Hayes, Sr., 85, of Nahunta, GA died Wednesday morning at Malcom Randall VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Hickox, GA, his parents were Rufus Johnson Washington Hayes and Beulah Rowell Hayes. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Lou Griffin Hayes and 3 sisters, Mary Brunson, Alene Hickox and Tootsie Hayes. He served in the U. S. Army and was a Pulpwood producer. He had a good sense of humor and was loved in the community, where he liked helping people get on their feet. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Delynda Hayes of Waynesville; Babe Ruth "B.R." Hayes, Jr. of Nahunta; and David and Virginia Ann Hayes of Nahunta; a daughter, Vicky Marie Hayes Allen of Nahunta; 2 brothers, Willie R. Hayes of Jacksonville and L.V. and Elaine Hayes of Jacksonville, FL; 6 Grandchildren, William Ashley and Angie Kearney of Baxley; Eric Hayes of Nahunta; Kristy and Timmy O'Neal of Hickox; Kyle and Lisa Hayes of Nahunta; Virgil Brock Willis of Nahunta and Jared Luke Allen of Nahunta; 7 Great grandchildren, Kyler Hayes, Montana Crews, Alyssa O'Neal, Matthew O'Neal, Mark O'Neal, Lauren Kearney and Noelani Hayes; also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be Friday (Oct. 15, 2010) evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral services will be Saturday (Oct. 16, 2010) morning at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Bishop Hugh Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery with Military rites. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, William Kearney, Eric Hayes, Timmy ONeal, Kyle Hayes, Brock Willis and Jared Allen. Arrangement are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
