Basil Willis Holmes

Hortense - Basil Willis Holmes, 65, of Hortense died early Friday morning (September 4, 2015) at his residence after an extended illness. Born in Brunswick, GA his parents were Lester Eugene and Alice Cooler Holmes. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Penny Ruth Usher Holmes; and 7 brothers and sisters. Basil was a retired plumber and served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He also loved fishing and was the best person all around to his family. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Selena Holmes of Brunswick; 4 grandchildren, Morgan Inell Holmes Stangle of Charlotte, NC, Joshua Andrew Holmes of Wichita, KS, Skyler Carroll and Chloe Carroll both of Brunswick; adopted son, Mason Spooner of Hortense; a brother, Larry Holmes of Ohio; and also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Wednesday afternoon (September 9, 2015) at Frye Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Wednesday afternoon (September 9, 2015) at 2PM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home, with Rev. Keith Brown officiating. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
