Bernard Ellsworth Linton, Jr.

Hortense – Bernard “Bernie” Ellsworth Linton, Jr., 85, passed away early Tuesday morning (August 21, 2018) at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland his parents were Bernard Ellsworth Linton, Sr. and Margaret Hatter Linton. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, James Linton and Robert Linton; and a sister, Dorothy Kouns.

Bernard served in the United States Army and retired from the railroad. He was a member of Waynesville Baptist Church, and also loved fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Linton of Hortense; 2 children and their spouses, Mike & Denise Linton of Glynn Co and Joyce & Mike Quarterman of Guyton; 3 step children and their spouses, Mike & Cindy Prescott of Hortense, Beverly & Tommy Clark of Camden Co, and Susan Rich of Hortense; 12 grandchildren, Joseph Quarterman, Melissa Linton, Rebecca Griffin, Sarah Scott, Jacee Prescott, Tanna Prescott, Heather Cochran, Damion Lampkin, Andrew Leho, Craig McCullough, Talsey McCullough, and Kenya McCullough; 10 great grandchildren, Brittany Prescott, Braedon Moore, Ilona Bartush, Austin Cochran, Anniston Cochran, Natalie Leho, Michael Runyan, Sofia Runyan, Carson Scott, and Reid Scott; 10 McCullough great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild, Braleigh Prescott; a brother, Carl Linton of Baltimore, Maryland; 2 sisters, Katherine Heckler and Charlotte Boublilz both of Baltimore, Maryland; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Friday morning (August 24, 2018) at 11am at Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Carr officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, at the church.

Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Russ Edgy, Damion Lampkin, Joseph Quarterman, Andrew Leho, Jody Cochran, and Austin Cochran.

Pallbearers are asked to be at the church Friday by 10:30am.
