Bertha Hartwig Rhoden

Nahunta- Bertha Hartwig Rhoden, 82, of Nahunta died Friday night (December 12, 2014) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross after a brief illness. Born in Brantley Co her parents were Arthur and Ruth Morgan Hartwig. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Perry Rhoden; and a daughter, Sheila Gail Rhoden; 3 brothers Adolph Hartwig, Vernon Hartwig and Wayne Hartwig; and 2 sisters, Gretchen Harrell and Gertrude Smith. Bertha was a homemaker and a member of Hickox Baptist Church. She loved her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Also she loved cooking, baking and going to the mountains. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tony & Karen Rhoden of Nahunta; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & Johnny Wainright of Nahunta; 2 very special granddaughters, Amy Harris and Melissa Crews; 5 grandchildren, Josh Wainright, Jennifer Williams, Dustin Rhoden, Hatty Rhoden and Marthy Rhoden; 11 great grandchildren; 4 special nieces and nephews, Kathy Moody, Janice Bailey, Deborah Manning and Richard Rhoden; a special cousin, Edward Chancey; 3 special friends, Monie Lou Tripp, Willie Brooker and Gloria Howland; and also several other nieces, nephews and other relatives. A visitation will be held Sunday evening (December 14, 2014) from 6PM- until at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Monday afternoon (December 15, 2014) at 2pm at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Rhoden, Pastor Chad Stanley and Rev. Randy Wainright officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Hickox. Pallbearers will be Byron Smith, Isaac Rountree, Marc Chancey, Larry Thomas, Ray Griffin, Phillip Chancey, Jeremy Crews and K.C. Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe & Bradley Lake, Reba Crews and the Senior Center. Pallbearers are asked to be at the funeral home Monday by 1:30pm. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
