Bertha Rooks

Hortense-Bertha Lee Mitchell Rooks, 72 of Hortense, passed away Monday (December 29, 2014) at her residence following an extended illness. Born in Brunswick, GA her parents were Stephen Wright Mitchell and Irma Lee Hutchinson Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John David Rooks; and a brother, Roy S. Mitchell. Bertha was a member of Peoples Liberty Baptist Church She loved reading the Bible, watching T.V., and spending time with her grandbabies and great grandbabies. Survivors include 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy Hill(Teresa), and Willie Roy Hill, Jr., all of Hortense GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Rooks (Ralph), of Hortense; 4 grandchildren, Shade Rooks, Ralph Rooks, Jr., Holly Lynn Porter, and Heidi Lee Houghton; 4 great grandchildren, Cheyanne Rooks, Zane Rooks, Aliah Porter, and Caity Lynn Porter; a great great granddaughter, Skilar Parkinson; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert Mitchell (Sue), of Lulaton; 3 sisters, Glynese Smith, of Brunswick, JoAnn Landon, of Hortense, and Doris Ann Ribbon, of Nahunta. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A Visitation will be held Friday evening (January 2, 2015) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday morning (January 3, 2015) at 11AM at Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Harrison and Rev. Larry Altman officiating. Burial will follow in Whittaker Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Parkinson, Justin Hilliard, John Harrison, Luke Harrison, Rick Troup, and Mitch Ward. Family and pallbearers are asked to meet at the Funeral Home by 10:30AM Saturday. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
