Betty Louise Derrickson Smith

Betty Louise Derrickson Smith, 74, of Waynesville died Saturday evening (June 19, 2010) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness. Born in Straughn, Indiana her parents were Cecil and Bertha Custer Derrickson. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lee Smith and a sister, Janie Cowan. Betty was a manager for the Dairy Queen at the Truckstop of America in Brunswick and was a member of North Brunswick Christian Church. Also she loved taking care of her grandchildren. Survivors include her 8 children and their spouses, Debra & Bill Sumner of Atkinson, Randy & Sonie Smith of Indiana, Kenneth & Mary Smith, Steve Smith, Tony & Tanya Smith all of Waynesville, Lori & Bryan Bell of St. Simons Island, Susan Smith of Brunswick and Amanda Smith & Bob Mason of Waynesville; 22 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, William & Joann Derrickson of California and Cecil & Betty Derrickson of Indiana; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat & Arnold Bryant and Janice & Jim Dickerson all of Indiana; a brother-in-law, Bill Cowan of Indiana; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening (June 22, 2010) starting at 7PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning (June 23, 2010) at 11AM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Waycross. Pallbearers will be Bill Sumner, Bryan Bell, Bob Mason, Randy Smith, Tony Smith and Kenny Smith. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com.
