Folkston – Bill Chesser, 92, of Folkston passed away early Monday morning (February 26, 2024) at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Folkston, GA his parents were Joseph Thomas “J.T.” Chesser and Iva Chesser Chesser. He is also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Lane; a brother, Wade Chesser; and 2 sisters, Winifred Gay and Girdie Thompson.
Bill retired as a Senior Representative for Chevron Corporation and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a Staff Sargeant. He attended the University of Georgia and received a bachelor’s degree from Massey Business College. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church in Folkston and a former Charlton County Commissioner who loved fishing, gardening, doing yardwork and just staying busy.
Survivors include his wife, Loutrelle Thrift Chesser of Folkston; a son, Phillip Chesser of Richmond Hill, GA; 2 daughters, Lori Chesser of San Antonio, TX and Lynette Askew of Richmond Hill; 9 grandchildren, Shane Chesser (Kathy), Shannon Chesser (Amelia), Isaac Durrance (Tina), Brittany Bristow (Don), Laura Askew, Dawn Carter (Shane), Heather Harris (Mel), Caitlin Maddox and Cody DeLarme; 15 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Joe Lester Chesser (Donnie) of Folkston and Aaron Chesser of Susan, VA; a sister, Ruby Sirmans of Waycross; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Thursday morning (February 29, 2024) starting at 10am at First Baptist Church in Folkston.
A funeral service will be held Thursday morning (February 29, 2024) at 11am at First Baptist Church in Folkston with Dr. Randy Jacoby and Chaplain Carlos White officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Brooks, Kaleb Carter, Tracy Chesser, James Lewis, Wade Mathison and Sydney Southwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh Chancey, Bill Allen, Pardner Davis, Glynn Brooks, Steve Nance, Randy Nance and Jessica O’Berry.
