Hickox- Mr. Norris Strickland, 82 of Hickox, died early Sunday morning(February 26, 2012) at Satilla Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Lulaton, his parents were Everette Sr. and Henrietta Young Strickland. He is also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Everette Jr., and Vernon Strickland, and a sister, Myrtle Griffin. Mr. Norris was a member and inactive deacon at the Hickox Baptist Church. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for many years as a carman for the railroad, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Lorena Strickland, of Hickox; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan & Marion Strickland, of Hickox; a daughter and son-in-law, Gwen & Micheal Short, of Nahunta; 3 grandchildren & their spouse, Michelle Short & Michael Lawson, of Brunswick, Hunter Strickland, and Byron Strickland, both of Nahunta; 2 great grandchildren, Grace Lawson, and Hayden Lawson both of Brunswick; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrle & Aley Lee, of Nahunta; Marion & Earl Clements, of Brunswick. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening (February 28, 2012) at 6PM, at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday afternoon (February 29, 2012) at 2PM at Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Ray McMillan, Dr. Darrell Rentz, and Rev. Vance Colley officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Hickox. Pallbearers will be Daryl Hand, Randy Rowell, Brandon Rowell, Marlan Depratter,Phillip Chancey and Dan Moody. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hickox Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class and Deacons. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
