Riverside Community- Charles Ashley Johnson, 82 of the Riverside Community, passed away late Sunday night (November 17, 2013) at his residence following an extended illness. Born August 26, 1931, in Nichols, GA. His parents were Johnny C. and Carmen Waters Shaw Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Elizabeth Johnson; a brother, Larry Johnson; and a special aunt Weezee. Charles served in the Korean War on active duty and when he came home married Mrs. Barbara and moved to Fernandina to make his living as a machinist at Container Coorporation. After retiring, he moved with his wife to Nahunta, GA in 2000. Charles was a member of Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed Geneology, he was a member of many organizations including, Historical Society, Masonic Lodge of Fernandina Beach (Amelia Lodge #47 F & AM), and Shriners, and also a member of International Association of Machinists and Aero Space Workers for 37 years and served as president for many years. He is leaving behind his wife of 56 years, Barbara Ann Herrin Johnson, of Riverside Community, 5 generations of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Children include, Susan Parker (John), Sharron Johns (Devon), Charles Michael (Juanita), and Amber Middleton (Jamin) all of Riverside; Grandchildren include, Kelly Hatton, Ashley Douglas, Zachary Parker, George and Brody Middleton, and Carmen Johnson; Great Grandchildren include, Chelsea Lynn and Courtney Hatton, and Johnathan, Jayden, and Loretta Douglas; Great Great Grandsons include, Parker Lynn and Chandler Sellers. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening (November 19, 2013) at 6PM, at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. A Funeral service will be held Wednesday (November 20, 2013) at 11AM at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Wainright and Rev. Robert Huling. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Parker, Jamin Middleton, Ward Highsmith, J.R. Herrin, Don Herrin, Dale Strickland, Devon Popham, and Chuck Conners. Honorary pallbearer will be E.B. Herrin and Ken Sylvester.
