Folkston – David Connie O’Berry, Sr., 92 of Folkston passed away Saturday morning (January 4, 2020) at the Hospice House in Waycross after an extended illness.
Born in Folkston, GA his parents were John O’Berry and Beulah Anderson O’Berry. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Elvera Redding O’Berry; a son, Ricky O’Berry; a grandson, Lamar Johns; 4 brothers, Roy O’Berry, Cleve O’Berry, Lester O’Berry, and Frank O’Berry; and 3 sisters, Margaret Dowling, Elma Hale, and Alma Googe.
David was a security guard for International Paper but had worked many other jobs during his life. He served in the United States Army and was a member of Winokur Baptist Church. David was a hard-working man who loved working in his garden, fishing, hunting and riding on the golf cart.
Survivors include his 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, David C. O’Berry, Jr. and Larry O’Berry (Carolyn) all of Folkston; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Johns (Pumpkin) of Waynesville; 6 grandchildren, Ashley O’Berry, Justin O’Berry, Felisha Ponsell, Michael Johns, Bill Johns and Darrell Curry; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Monday evening (January 6, 2020) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning (January 7, 2020) at 11AM at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Cliff Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Allen-O’Berry Cemetery in Folkston with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Curry, Aaron Curry, Joe Curry, Mark Thrift, Justin O’Berry, and Michael Johns.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
