David Samuel Stewart

January 10, 1943 — July 21, 2011

Hickox- Mr. David Samuel Stewart, 68, of Hickox died early Thursday morning (July 21, 2011) at Hospice of the Golden Isles after an extended illness. Born in Lulaton, GA his parents were Alfred Henley and Maude Griffin Stewart. He is also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. David was a retired Chief Quartermaster for the United States Navy and also served in the United States Army. He also held a master coast guard license which allowed him to be the captain in charge of many sea going vessels, was an expert ship navigator, held many sea going meritorious commendations and loved being on the sea where he became an inspiration to many who followed in his footsteps. Also he loved doing genealogy. Survivors include his sister, Florrence Wainright of Hickox; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Judy Stewart of Woodstock; a sister-in-law, Tiny Stewart of Brunswick; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Saturday (July 23, 2011) from 2:00-3:30PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A graveside service will be held Saturday afternoon (July 23, 2011) at 4PM at New Hope Cemetery with full military honors with Rev. James Wainright officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco PKWY Brunswick, GA 31525. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com
