Donnie Burl Aspinwall

Nahunta – Donnie Burl Aspinwall, 65, of Nahunta passed away Friday evening (May 26, 2023) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness.

Born in Brunswick, GA his parents were Burnice A. “B.A.” Aspinwall and Eldonna “Donna” Mosley Aspinwall. He is also preceded in death by his sister, June Sapp.

Donnie was a former Chief of Police for the City of Nahunta and was the former Pastor of Bachlott Community Church. Donnie had 35 years in law enforcement which included Brunswick Police Department, Glynn County Sheriff’s Department and the Nahunta Police Department. He was a giver, forgiver, protector, always put others first, who loved big and hard and was always there because he didn’t have a selfish bone in his body. He was a true definition of forgiveness. Donnie was a courteous and respectful man who always put his girls first before because he loved them more than anything. Donnie would always tell the girls how pretty they are! He loved taking trips (The Smokey Mountains were his favorite), loved adventures, playing his guitar, fishing, his hat, and anything that could be done as a family.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Aspinwall of Nahunta; a daughter, Mandy Aspinwall (Stacy Williams) of Nahunta; step son, Chris Prescott; 2 grandchildren, Braelyn and Kinsley; 3 step grandchildren, Taylor, CJ, and Haley Prescott; step great granddaughter, Mayzlee; mother-in-law, Janice Prescott; nieces, Karen Sapp, Ann Anderson and Lori Maxey of Jesup; a nephew, Larry Sapp of Jesup; uncle, Johnny Ben “J.B.” Aspinwall of Screven; 2 special friends who were like his sons, Shaun Williford (Donna) Lakeland, GA and David Williford (Ale) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening (June 1, 2023) from 6-8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Friday afternoon (June 2, 2023) at 2pm at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. David Williford and Rev. Marvin Booth officiating. Burial will follow in Bachlott Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shaun Williford, Davy Williford, Stacy Williams, Art Todd, Larry Sapp, Stevie Altman and Freddie Newman. Honorary pallbearers will be Nahunta Police Department and the Brantley Co Sheriff’s Office.
