Doris Lavade Fowler

Mrs. Doris Lavade Lewis Fowler, 79, of Nahunta died Thursday morning (December 3, 2009) at her residence after and extended illness. Born in Nahunta, GA her parents were the late Evan Jackson & Ethel Mae Hickox Lewis. She is also preceded in death by her three husband, Clayton P. Riggins, Howard Hursey and Goldwire Fowler; a sister, Margie Lewis Strickland; and a brother, Evan Jackson Lewis, Jr. She was a retired hair dresser who loved her God and family, enjoyed playing cards, joke telling and gardening. Also she was a member of Nahunta 1st Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. She is survived by 4 children and a son-in-law, Linda Riggins & John Jones of St. Simons Island, Gail Riggins Herrin of Nahunta, Sandra Riggins Schmitt of Hinesville and Vickie Riggins Chesser of Nahunta;7 Step-Children, William & Carlene Hursey of Gray, Linda Hursey & Alton Morgan of Nahunta, Linda Fowler & Franklin Roberson, Jerry & Linda Fowler and Rita Fowler & Norman Arnold all of Waycross, Cathy Fowler & Tommy Cox and Mark & Susan Fowler of Blackshear; 10 Grandchildren, Cynthia Jones Kidney and Maryanne Jones both of St. Simons Island, Rebecca Jones of Brunswick, Tripp & Mary Ellen Herrin of Nahunta, Brad & Mary Emily Herrin of Crescent City, FL, Eric & Amber Schmitt of Blair,OK, Sheri Schmitt & Matthew Warde and Natalie Schmitt both of Hinesville, Stephania Horne of Nahunta and Amanda & Josh Ammons of Hoboken; 14 Great Grandchildren, Phillip Taylor Kidney, Lindsey Gail Herrin, Braden Morgan Herrin, Max Bradford Herrin, Morgan Renee Schmitt, Hunter Schmitt, Garrett Schmitt, Gavin Warde, Kaela Horne, Skyler Horne, Grayson Horne, Jonathon Ammons, Jacob Ammons,and Jeremy Ammons; a sister, Virginia Lewis Ramer of Nahunta; a sister-in-law, Patsy Walker Lewis of Crestview, FL; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Saturday evening (December 5, 2009) starting at 6pm- until at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon (December 6, 2009) at 2:30pm from The Nahunta 1st Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Carson, Rev. Christopher Sheffield and Rev. Jerry Johns officiating. Burial will follow in Rob Lewis Cemetery in Raybon. Active pallbearers will be Ben Jay Hursey, Tripp Herrin, Brad Herrin, Greg Bennett, Jay Fowler, Mike Hendrix, Dean Horne and Josh Ammons. Honorary pallbearers will be Marie Hagen, LuLu Thornton, First Baptist Heaven Bond Sunday School Class and Pleasant Valley Joy Group. All are ask to please meet at the church by 2PM Sunday.
