Doris Lorene Johnson

Doris “Lorene” Byrd Johnson, 82 of Jacksonville, passed away Monday (May 1, 2017) at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside in Jacksonville, FL., following an extended illness.

Born in Hickox, GA., her parents were Charlie Liston Byrd and Mary Lettie Davison Byrd. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Grover Johnson; two sons, Larry Eldon Byrd and Nathan Glenn Johnson; her daughter, Kathy Natalie Helton; two sisters, Lois Byrd Lee and Louise Byrd Wainright; three brothers, Colvin Liston “Jinx” Byrd, Liston Byrd, and John-Lewis Byrd.

Lorene worked for Knight Brothers Paper as a Book Bindary and was a member of Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. She loved working in her flowers, cooking for others, and loved her grandchildren and family dearly.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Johnson Kirkman (Jerry), of Jacksonville; her son-in-law, Kenny E. Helton, of Jacksonville; and a daughter-in-law, Margareta Byrd, of Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Shawn Byrd, Jared Kirkman (Claudia), Eric Kirkman (Nett), Hayley Harris (Fred), Kenneth Helton II (Andrea), Wendy Watts (William), Sabrina Mummert (Joe), Stephanie Orr (Michel), and Brandee Kirkman; 28 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday (May 4, 2017) at 6PM at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church.

Funeral Service will be held Friday morning (May 5, 2017) at 11AM at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Wainright officiating.

Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Helton II, Michel Orr, William Watts, Jared Kirkman, Kenny Helton, and Christopher Harris.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Gerald Drew.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
