Dorothy Mae Steedley

March 16, 1921 — April 27, 2016

Dorothy Mae Harris Steedley, 95 of Nahunta, passed away Wednesday, (April 27, 2016), at her residence following an extended illness.


Born in Nahunta, GA., her parents were Thomas Noah Harris and Clifford Amanda Highsmith Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Seward Edgar Steedley; her daughter, Merle Finnette Scarborough; her son, Julian Edgar Steedley; two brothers, Conrade Harris and William Harris; two sisters, Maude Cleland and Solena Steedley; her granddaughter, Anna Lee O’Neal; and her son-in-law, Coleman Prescott.

Dorothy was a member of Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed planting flowers, crocheting, and cooking.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Shirley Steedley, of Folkston; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Prescott, of Jacksonville, Jeanette and Buddy Cato, of Nahunta; her daughter-in-law, Linda Marion, of Raybon; 9 grandchildren, Richy, Brian, Ronda, Eric, Alan, Chris, Clifford, Amanda, and Mischelle; 19 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Thursday (April 28, 2016) from 6PM-9PM, at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday (April 29, 2016) at 2PM at Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Wainright officiating.

Burial will follow in Little Buffalo Creek Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
