Waycross- Dr. Walter Glynn Griffin, 59, of Waycross died late Tuesday night (June 12, 2012) at his residence after an extended medical illness. Born in Waycross, GA his parents were Walter Raleigh & Vermell Moore Griffin. He is also preceded in death by a special aunt Ollie Mae Crews. Dr. Glynn was a 1970 honor graduate from Brantley County High School. During his high school track career Glynn won several state records for shot putting and also won the Southeast Conference for shot putting. Dr. Glynn became an undergraduate in 1974 with an athletic scholarship and was a world class shot putter but chose Veterinarian College instead. In 1978, Dr. Glynn graduated with honors from the University of Georgia, College of Veterinarian Medicine and was also an alumni for the University of Georgia. Also he was a relief veterinarian for ten or more practices in our surrounding counties and a mentor to veterinarian students and graduates for the past ten years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Griffin Chakraborty (Dev), of New York, NY; a brother, Roy Griffin of King William, VA; a sister and brother-in-law, Diane & Jimmy Woodard of Hoboken; special uncle, Eldon Crews of Hoboken; 3 nephews, Tim Woodard and Jim Woodard of Hoboken and Phillip Griffin of King William, VA; a special friend and associate, Dr. Rick Stobaeus of Brunswick; and many cousins and a host of friends. Visitation will be held after the service Saturday (June 16, 2012) at Mt. Calvary Church Social Hall in Hoboken. A graveside service will be held Saturday morning (June 16, 2012) at 11AM at Mt. Calvary Church Cemetery in Hoboken. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Rick Stobaeus, Ronald & Terry Jacobs, Gary Cason, Larry & Terry Crews. In lieu of flowers donation can be sent to Mt. Calvary Church building fund-2738 Mt. Calvary Rd. Hoboken, GA 31542; or the Salvation Army In Memory of Dr. Walter Glynn Griffin. Arrangement are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
