Riverside Community - Edward "Groce" Lowther, 60, of Riverside community died Saturday morning (April 18, 2015) at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick after an extended illness. Born in Folkston, GA his parents were Owen King and Eliza Elizabeth Flowers Lowther. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Johns and a sister, Audrey Mae Lowther Newton. Groce was a truck driver for Hopkins-Gowen Oil Company and a member of Winokur Baptist Church. He was a past President of the FFA during his high school years, a FFA Alumni President and also held office of Sentinel FFA. Groce loved the outdoors, farming, gardening, and hunting(fire hunting was his favorite). He was a very loving person who loved being around people and seeing folks happy. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Lee Lowther of the Riverside Community; a son & daughter-in-law, Ed & Mary Lowther of Hickox; a son he raised and his spouse, James & Virginia Swain of Waycross; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa & Jimmy McCullaugh of Collins, GA and Bethany Lowther of the Riverside Community; 8 grandchildren, Carolin Lowther, Lindy Lowther, Edie Lowther, Tuff Lowther, Cassie McCullaugh, Rachel McCullaugh, Audrey Swain and Jayden Swain; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy & Naomi Lowther of Hot Springs Village, AK and Charles & Terri Lowther of Winokur; a sister-in-law, Nell Johns of Folkston; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Monday evening (April 20, 2015) starting at 6pm at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon (April 21, 2015) at 3PM at Riverside Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Manning, Rev. Cliff Adams, Rev. Jerry Johns, and Rev. Randy Wainright officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron Eunice, Darl Keen, George Griffis, Mike Harris, Anthony Lee, Jeffery Johns, Troy Wainright ,Art Cribb, C.L. Lewis, John Willie Johns, and Ricky Mobley. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry & Debbie Parker, Rev. E.C. & Carolyn Crews, Harvin Carter, Buddy Carter, and Billy Clark. Pallbearers and Honorary are asked to be at the church by 2:30pm Tuesday.
