Hoboken- Mrs. Elaine Michael Hickox Stewart, 86, of Hoboken died Wednesday morning (January 26, 2011) at her residence after an extended illness. Born in Orchard Park, NY she was the daughter of Arthur and Mabel Bartold Michael. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Edward Stewart; a son, Michael Hilton Hickox; a step-son, "Bobby" Robert Stewart; and a sister, Doris Tusler. In 1947 she moved to Delray Beach, FL when her parents retired and she married Hilton Hickox in 1949 where they moved to Boynton Beach, FL and became charter members of First Presbyterian Church. She also was a Sunday school teacher. Together they had five children. After Mr. Hilton passed away she married Herbert Stewart in 1971 where they had a shelter for the state for abused children. Also they owned E & H Garden Center and were associated with AHA Garden Centers. She was also a Kindergarten teach in Palm Beach for over twenty years where she was known as "Miss Elaine". Elaine was a past President of the VFW Auxiliary, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #4360 in Palm Springs, FL, Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal order of Eagles Aerie #3944 in Boynton Beach, FL, a Women of the Moose Lodge #46 in Lake Worth, FL and a Brownie leader and den mother in the Girl Scouts. In 1992, she retired in Hoboken, GA where she became a member of Philippian Worship Center. Survivors include 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, William A. Hickox and Ronald K. & Linda Hickox all of Hoboken; 2 daughters, Gayle Hickox-Pard of Edmonton Alberta, Canada and Glenda Hickox of Greenacres, FL; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Stewart of Greenacres, FL; 18 Grandchildren; 32 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren; a brother, Donald A. Michael of Williston, FL; a sister, Dr. Arthura J. Roberts of Des Moines, IA; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Friday evening (January 28, 2011) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon (January 29, 2011) at 2PM at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Jacobs officiating. Mrs. Elaine will lay in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in High Bluff Cemetery in Hoboken. Pallbearers will be Kevin Oglesby, Ross Brown, Cory Wagner, Robert A. Gagnon, Robert L. Gagnon and Jarrod Hickox. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta, GA. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com.
