Ernest Grobe Holmes, Jr.

Nahunta-Ernest “Peewee” Grobe Holmes, Jr., 53 of Nahunta, passed away Sunday night (May 27, 2018) at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Brunswick, GA his parents were Ernest G. Holmes, Sr. and Mable Bratcher Holmes. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Holmes.

Mr. Holmes retired after 32 years with Glynn County Fire Department, he was a member of the Nahunta Fire Department., Golden Isles EMS, and Charlton Fire Department, Explorers Brunswick Fire Department. He loved anything to do with History, the Military, and the Civil War, he also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family.

Survivors include 2 sons, Jonathan Holmes and James Michael Long both of Nahunta; the mother of his child and best friend, Terry Herrin of Nahunta; 1 grandchild, Ryleigh Leanne Heath; 2 brothers, Wayne Holmes and Scott Holmes both of Brunswick; a sister, Joyce Sheffield, of Ohio; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday morning (June 2, 2018) from 10-11 AM at Frye Funeral Home.

A Memorial Service with full Firefighter Honors will be held Saturday (June 2, 2018) at 11AM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Cliff Adams officiating.
