Erwin Spears

March 14, 1916 — November 29, 2012

Nahunta-Erwin Spears, 96 of Nahunta, passed away Thursday evening (November 29, 2012) at Satilla Hospice following an extended illness. Born in Thomasville, GA., his parents were Gulver and Essie Williams Spears. He is also preceded in death by his brother, James Spears. Erwin has been retired 34 years from SCL Railroad as a Train Master, where he worked 42 years. He enjoyed fishing and boating, and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife Bessie "Juanita" Higginbotham Spears, of Nahunta; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Kristina Spears, of Kingsland, Lance and Patti Spears, of Jacksonville, Mark and Jodie Spears, of Groveland, FL.;2 daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Lamar Peace, of Lakeland, FL., Karen and Ken Forfar, of Jacksonville, FL.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Esther Long, of Thomasville. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held Monday evening (December 3, 2012) from 6-8PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday morning (December 4, 2012) at 10AM at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Johns officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lewis Spears, Lance Spears, Mark Spears, Brian Mcleod, Howard Mcleod, and Justin Forfar. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
