Estelle Inez Sloan

Estelle Inez Sloan born July 15, 1925 in Hortense, GA, passed away March 27, 2009 in Schenectady, NY. She was the loving mother of Robert Taylor (Pat DeLoach) Brunswick, GA; Danny Cash (Marge) Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; and Keith Schermerhorn (Joella Giello) Schenectady, NY. She is survived by her brother Marvin Sloan (Loureatha) Offerman, GA; and her sisters Myrtice Zorn (Hugh) Hortense, GA; Iris Bradley (Alvin) Phenix City, AL; and Lois Ashby (Charles) Hortense, GA. In addition she has 10 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Vernie and Mary Sloan, sister Louise Lloyd, and husbands Harwell Taylor, Milton Cash, Jerry Schermerhorn and long-time friend Jim Smith. As a young woman, she lived and worked in Jacksonville, FL enjoying summer weekends at the Jacksonville Beach. She spent the majority of her adult years in Schenectady, NY working in grocery stores. She had the opportunity to have a lasting friendship with Dottie Pace. Her pleasures included playing bingo, watching her favorite baseball team the New York Yankees, good food, music, and teasing and being teased as she always enjoyed a good laugh. She received her greatest pleasure from being with her family, whom she loved and adored. Visitation Thursday April 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Frye Funeral Home, 115 Satilla Ave., Nahunta, GA. Funeral service will be Friday, April 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy, Hortense, GA with Rev. Hinton Johnson officiating, followed by interment at the Hortense Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Ashby, Paul Bradley, Paul Bradley Jr., Donnie Sirmans, Britton Williams, and Gary Zorn. Sympathy may be expressed my signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com.
