Eugene Harrison

Waynesville – Eugene Harrison, 93, of Waynesville, GA passed away January 11, 2018, after an extended illness.

Born in Baxley, GA, August 2, 1924, his parents were Robert Estelle and Edna Fennell Harrison. He is also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Glenn Harrison and Robert Harrison; and 2 sisters, Doris Booth and Estelle Plummer.

Eugene a.k.a. Uncle Gene was the Maryland Casualty Company Property Manager for the state of Florida in Tampa for 30 years until his retirement, when he relocated back to his origins in South Georgia. Gene was a member of Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church. He is well known for being the Brantley County “Santa Claus” in Christmas parades and for various institutions. He was a founding member of the Waynesville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Betty Jo Beach Harrison of Waynesville, a sister, Edna Deloris Harry of Newnan, GA, and children Carol Harrison and Stephanie Troncalli of Atlanta, GA; Deborah and Fernando Serrano of Lincoln University, PA; Glenn Eugene Harrison, Phyllis Thornberg and Dana Guy of Tampa, FL; and Claire (Wayne) Thompson of Waynesville, GA. He is also survived by grandchildren Joel Harrison Harvey and Nicole Harvey, and 3 great grandchildren, Lauren Rachael Harvey, Katelyn Michelle Harvey, and Conner Jacob Harvey of Tampa, FL; granddaughter Ashley Ward of Wilkesville, OH; and many well-loved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends, all too numerous to mention.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, January 20, 2018, at Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church, 25486 US-82, Waynesville, GA 31566, with Rev. Joe Carr and Rev. Mitch Thompson officiating.
