Nahunta- Mr. Fred Clifton Howard, 80, of Nahunta died Wednesday afternoon (February 9, 2011) at his residence after an extended illness. Born in Blackshear his parents were Joseph Arson Howard and Thyra Griffin Howard Addison. He is also preceded in death by a son, Terry Howard and a brother, Robert Glenn Howard. Fred was retired from the United States Navy as a naval chief during which time he served in the Korea Conflict and the Vietnam War. He also attended Atkinson Church of God of Prophecy. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Willis Howard of Nahunta; 3 children and their spouses, Fred C. & Penny Howard, Jr. of West Virginia, Thomas F. "Skipper" Howard of Annapolis, Maryland and Roger Anthony "Tony" & Patty Howard of Golden Beach, Maryland; 6 Grandchildren, Ashley & Oscar Howard of Virginia, Abbygale Howard of West Virginia, Michelle & Vince Craig of Maryland, Anthony Howard of Maryland, Christopher Scott Howard of Maryland and Patrick Howard of Maryland; 7 great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenny & Jan Howard of Macon; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Joann & Bobby Rowell of Nahunta and Wanda & Dudley Coffey of Virginia; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Saturday evening (February 12, 2011) starting at 5PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A service in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA will be held at a later date.
