Nahunta – Gabriel “Buster” Levi Strickland, 81, of Nahunta passed away early Tuesday morning (July 12, 2022) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness.
Born in Jesup, GA his parents were Wilbur Leo Strickland and Leora Courson Strickland. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents and a sister, Kathy Crooms.
Buster was a retired supervisor for CSX and a member of Raybon Advent Christian Church. He loved spending time with his family, going to church, tending to ostriches, hunting and farming.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Howell Strickland; a son and daughter-in-law, Harvey & Sandra Strickland of Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa & Richard Johns of Nahunta; 2 grandchildren, Dustin Johns (Lyn) and Thomas Johns (Jadison); sister, Margaret Wells of FL; brother-in-law, Mitchell Crooms; nephew, Allen Lewisch (Hortencia) of Lulaton; niece, Amanda Crooms Tucker (Donnie) of TN; great nephews, Connor Tucker and Maddox Tucker; and also several other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening (July 14, 2022) from 6pm – 8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Friday morning (July 15, 2022) at 11am at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Bro. David Herrin and Rev. Hilton Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kaleb Rowell, Edwin Barns, Emory Wilson, John Simpson, Cliff Adams and Terry Herrin. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Lewisch and Demarus Johns.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
