Woodbine- George Carter, 61, of Woodbine died Thursday afternoon (July 21, 2011) at Shands Jacksonville after a short illness. Born in Woodbine, GA his parents were James Arder and Sadie Clara Willoughby Carter. George served in 4 years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was the manager on duty and hunting guide for 38years at Cabin Bluff. He was also of the Baptist faith and loved fishing, hunting, camping, his grandchildren and his dog. George just lived life to the fullest and was a great person to be around. Survivors include his wife of 32years, Jerry Melba Carter of Woodbine; 3 children, Sherry Carter Deloach (Tony) of Valdosta, Charles Eugene Carter "Buddy" (Fiancé Brandi Bennett) of Woodbine and Melba M. Parrott of Waynesville; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 siblings, Corneila "Neil" Carter, Jimmy & Patty Ann Carter and Faye Harriett & Joe Chancey all of Woodbine; a special friend, Gerald Stewart ; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Saturday evening (July 23, 2011) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A graveside service with military honors will be held Sunday afternoon (July 24, 2011) at 4PM at Colesburg Cemetery in Woodbine with Rev. Tommy Sikes officiating.
