Gilbert Roy Highsmith

Nahunta – Gilbert “Roy” Highsmith, 81, of Nahunta passed away early Sunday morning (April 30, 2017) at his residence after an extended illness.

Born in Waynesville GA his parents were Gilbert Webster and Marie Ammons Highsmith. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Nora Lyons Highsmith and a brother, Raymond Highsmith.

Roy was a long time carpenter and of the Baptist faith. He also loved fishing and camping.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Roy & Joanie Highsmith, Jr. of Lulaton; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda & John Thrift of Blackshear, Diane Highsmith of Nahunta, and Peggy & Steve Gibson of Waycross; 7 grandchildren, Lynn Jones, Jason Highsmith, Angie Moore, Marisha Thrift, Emma Claborn, Michele Highsmith, and Sylvia Herrin; 4 step grandchildren, Pam Griffin, Amberlea Barber, Chris Gibson, and Kevin Gibson; 13 great grandchildren, Charity, Austin Blocker, J.J., Austin Clark, Lily, Dalton, Breanna, Bryce, Torri, Jayme, Jimmy, Gabe, Abigail; Special companion, Connie Kantor; 2 brothers, Wardie Web Highsmith of Nahunta, and Marvin Highsmith of Blueridge, Ga.; 3 sisters, Janett Alexander of Nahunta, Shirley Marshall of Nahunta, and Margaret Ryles of Jacksonville; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Monday evening (May 1, 2017) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning (May 2, 2017) at 11am at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Hilton Morgan and Mr. Wiley Crews officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Teagel Bohannon, Bob Stiner, Don Herrin, Glynn Hartman, Billy Crews, and Clayton Carter.

The family will be receiving friends at Mr. Roy, 256 GW Highsmith Rd Nahunta GA 31553.
