Gladys 'Cecilia' Thornton

Nahunta – Gladys “Cecilia” Kennedy Thornton, 73, of Nahunta passed away Wednesday afternoon (December 16, 2020) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness.

Born in Savannah, GA her parents were Harold Kennedy, Sr. and Sarah Gladys Hendrix Kennedy.

Cecilia was a retired librarian assistant for Yulee Primary School and a member of Yulee Baptist Church where she was also a Sunday school teacher. She loved reading and spending time with her daughters, her grandson and other family member.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Freedom Thornton of Nahunta and Robyn Thornton of Hickox; her grandson, Noah Thornton of Hickox; her sister, Betsy Kennedy Purcell of Nahunta; her brother and sister-in-law, Harold “Buddy” Kennedy, Jr. (Patsy) of Columbia, TN; and also several nieces, a nephew, other relatives and a host of friends.

Due to the COVID-19, the family would like to ask all to please follow the rules for social distancing and face mask are highly recommended at the service. Also, anyone who does not feel comfortable with attending the services the family would like for you to know they understand and covet your prayers.

A graveside service will be held Monday afternoon (December 21, 2020) at 2pm at Bethlehem Cemetery with Rev. David Jacobs officiating.
