Tom Stewart

Glenn Thomas “Tom” Stewart, 82, of Waynesville passed away Sunday (December 24, 2023) at Hospice Satilla Hospice House after a short illness. He was born in Barberton, OH to the late Joseph and Anna Elizabeth Stewart. Mr. Stewart moved to Waynesville in 1984 and worked for Brunswick Pulp Mill until 1994. He will be remembered for his love of racing as he directed traffic at the Golden Isles Speedway for forty-three years and owned the #7 Race Car for many years. Mr. Stewart always enjoyed taking care of his family. He was a member of Waynesville Missionary Baptist Church.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Lynn Stewart; two children, Robert Joseph Stewart and Connie Lynn Heath; four brothers, infant brother, Steve Utz, Richard “Dick” Utz, and Dave Stewart.

Survivors include one grandson, Darrin Stewart of Waynesville; one granddaughter, Maranda Heath of Nahunta; one great-grandson, Landon Lane Lake; many adopted grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held beginning at 10 am Wednesday at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, December 27, 2023, at 11 am at the Frye Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jeff Mallard officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.  

Pallbearers will be Justin Phillips, Hunter Phillips, Matt Phillips, David Fredrickson, Trey Scott, Mitch Vickers, and Ronnie Phillips.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
