Hazel Mclain Strickland

May 26, 1915 — February 20, 2012

Nahunta- Hazel McLain Strickland, 96, of Nahunta died Monday night (February 20, 2012) at Bayview Nursing Home after an extended illness. Born in Appling Co., her parents were Lawton Willie and Sarah Agnes Murphy McLain. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Mattew Strickland; and 2 brothers, Odel McLain and Winston McLain. Hazel was a sea food packer for Sea Pack and of the Baptist faith. She was a very religious women who loved gardening and cooking. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Harvey & Linda Mayo of Yakima, WA; 2 grandsons, Harvey Mayo, Jr. of Sacramento, CA and Larry Mayo of Alaska; a granddaughter, Georgia McKtrick of Anacortes, WA; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bernic Alford of TX and Sarah Baxter of Brunswick, GA; a brother, Eddie McLain of TX; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A graveside service will be held Tuesday afternoon (February 28, 2012) at 2PM at New Hope Cemetery in Hickox with Rev. Jimmy L. Harper officiating. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
