Hazel Mercer

Hortense-Hazel Mercer, 58 of Hortense, passed away Friday (June 7, 2013) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Jacksonville following an extended illness. Born in Folkston, GA, her parents were Archie and Frances Hilton Mishoe, Sr. Hazel was a member of King Memorial Baptist Church. She loved quilting, traveling, reading, and gardening. Hazel worked many years as a sales clerk for Big J's. Survivors include her husband, Frank Mercer, of Hortense; her children and their spouses, William "Ray" Prescott, of Homeland, Simon Eston Prescott, Jr. (Tammy), of Folkston, Doris Melissa Prescott, of Folkston, Lynn Renee Elkins (Robbie), of Nahunta; her stepchildren and their spouses, Victor Mercer (Janice), of Hortense, Pam Gonzales (David), of Modesto, FL., and Amanda "Happy" Ware (Matt), of Santa Maria, CA.; 26 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; 4 brothers and their spouses, Jesse "J.D' Turner (Gail), of Nahunta, Williard "W.T." Turner (Sue), of St. George, Benjy Mishoe, of Hamlet, NC., and Carlos Mishoe (Gloria), of Folkston; 3 sisters and a brother-in-law, Patricia Walker (Noah), of Hoboken, Linda Harris, of Nahunta, and Alveda Nevitt, of Mulberry, FL. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A Visitation will be held Sunday (June 9, 2013) at 6 PM, at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A Funeral Service will be held Monday (June 10, 2013) at 10 AM, at Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Ed. Hurst, Rev. Terry Jackson, and Rev. Williard Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in the Satilla Cemetery, Hortense. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
