Helen Loucille Smith Purdom, 77, of Hortense, passed away early Saturday morning (May 11, 2013) at The Bayveiw Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Nahunta after an extended illness. Born in Pierce Co. her parents were the late James Alfred and Ruth Rowell Smith she was also preceded by 2 brothers, Robert and Harry Smith. Helen was a Seamstress with Julie Hat Co. before retiring and also a member at Satilla Missionary Baptist Church. Her favorite pass time was embroidering. Survivors include her Son, James Elrod of Hortense, a Daughter Jane Swain, of Woodbine , 5 grandchildren, Nicholas Rowell, of Nahunta, Nicole Voyles (Jacob)of Nahunta, Kendra Woolard (Scott), of Mississippi, Kayla Strickland, of Woodbine and Krystal Elrod, of Acworth, Great grandchildren, Eddie Rowell, Cheyanne Rowell, Suzanne Rowell, Michael Strickland, Becca Woolard, Lynzi Carter and Ryan Elrod, 2 Sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Dewain Branch of Hortense, and Betty King of Kingsland. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be Monday evening (May, 13, 2013) starting at 6 P.M. at the Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta. Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Purdom will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday (May 14, 2013) from The Satilla Missionary Baptist Church in Hortense with Rev. R.C. Mathis, Rev. Daniel Harris and Rev. Larry Drawdy officiating. Pallbearers will be Christian Santiago, Bruce Smith, Alvin Smith, Nicolas Rowell, James Purcell and Dalton Santiago. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Satilla Cemetery in Hortense. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta, GA.
