Hortense-Helen Lavada Loper Williams, 76 of Hortense, passed away Tuesday (July 16, 2013), at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, following an extended illness. She was Born on October 2, 1936 in Brantley County, GA, the daughter of the late Major Elwood Loper and Lydia Nancy Sloan. Helen lived for several years in Michigan, New York, and Florida before returning to Hortense to care for her ailing parents. She was a member of Satilla Baptist Church and was a faithful, active member for as long as she was physically able. Mrs. Williams loved animals and especially loved her last pets, Wendy and Pookie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Weightstille Lawton "Dub" Williams, and her brother, Richard Elwood Loper and sister-in-law, Dorothy Williams Loper. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Helen Williams Rowell (husband Donald) of Blackshear, a brother-in-law, Robert R. Williams (wife Suzanne) of Buckport, ME, and several nieces and nephews, including Judy Loper and Joey Loper, both of Green Cove Springs, FL. Also surviving are many cousins and her friends she called her sisters, Pearl Waits and Sherry Strickland, and those she called her girls, Crystal Pace and Brooke Deverger. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday (July 20, 2013) at 11 AM at Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Arnold officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
