Horace Thomas Jacobs, Sr.

Horace Thomas Jacobs, 91, of Nahunta, died early Thursday morning (May 20, 2010) at Southeast GA Health System, Brunswick, following a lengthy illness. Born in Hickox, GA, his parents were Edmund Franklin and Jane Thomas Jacobs. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Hendrix Jacobs, a Son-in-law, Jim Halligan, 3 Brothers, Alvin, Dan and Leon Jacobs, and 4 Sisters, Mary Harrison, Nora Highsmith, Lena Strickland and Gladys Higginbotham. Horace attended school in Nahunta and was Valedictorian of his class. He was a farmer and a member of the Brantley Co. Farm Bureau for 50 years, serving on the Board of Directors until 1992, as President from 1959 until 1960 and Vice President from 1969 until 1972. He was a member of Hickox Baptist Church. He is survived by his Children and their spouses; Tommy and Linda Jacobs of Nahunta; David Jacobs of Nahunta; Dr. Sandra Jacobs Shockley and John Shockley of Madison; and Dale and (the late, Jim) Halligan of Nahunta; 9 Grandchildren, Brent and Cheryl Jacobs, Tony Jacobs, Suzanne and Eric Hendricks, Dr. Marianne Shockley, Ayla and Richard Crippen, Reid Shockley, Melanie Highsmith, Vanesa and Charlie Ryan, Jana and Gabe Abouzeid;17 Great Grandchildren, Bridget and Ben James, Hannah, Ethan and Cassie Jacobs, Cullen Jacobs, Blair Highsmith, Gracee Henderson, Ava Ryan, Nadia Rashad, Kaysar and AAlaia Abouzeid, Miranda, Hailey and John Hendricks, Paul and Nora Stephens, Jack Crippen; a Great Great Grandchild, Brayden James; a Brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Ivey and Esther Jacobs of Alma; a Sister, Macie Colvin of Brunswick; a Sister-in-law, Fern Clark of Savannah; A special niece, Lula Mae Robinson of Waycross and A special nephew, Robert Harrison of Augusta; also, many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be Saturday evening (May 22, 2010) starting at 6 p.m. at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral services will be Sunday (May 23, 2010) at 2 p.m. at Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Ray McMillan, Bro. David Jacobs and Jeremy Sanders officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, Hickox. Pallbearers will be Tony Jacobs, Charlie Ryan, Reid Shockley, Gabe Abouzeid, Eric Hendricks, Jeremy Sanders and Brent Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers will be Nieces and Nephews.
