Nahunta – Ms. Iris Herrin Highsmith, 86, of Nahunta passed away Thursday morning (March 13, 2025) at Bayview Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Born in Hickox, GA. her parents were Jim R. Herrin and Vera Lee Rhoden Herrin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Wade Highsmith; 3 brothers, Jerald Herrin, Terrell Herrin, and Thomas Herrin; 2 sisters-n-law, Bonnie Herrin and Julia Walker; and 3 brothers-in-law, Tex Bradshaw, William Hinesley, and Jackie Steedley.
Iris retired from the OREMC as a dispatcher and was a member of the Hickox Baptist Church. She loved to cook and take care of other people, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Scott Highsmith (Teresa) of Nahunta; 2 grandchildren, Austin Highsmith (Angel) of Hickox, and Lofton Highsmith of Iowa; 2 great grandchildren, Satilla Highsmith and Savannah Highsmith; 1 brother, Maxie Herrin of Orlando, FL; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Wanda Gail Hinesley of Hickox, and Pat Anders (Steve) of Suwanee, FL.; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening (March 15, 2025) from 2PM-3PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Saturday evening (March 15, 2025) at 3PM at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Wainright officiating.
Burial will follow in Bethlehem cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Marty Martin, Jason Herrin, Chris Steedley, Jeromy Herrin, Derek Bradshaw, and Bronco Bradshaw.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
