Hortense - Jackie "Ed" Edward Hyers, 69, of Hortense died Monday afternoon (September 14, 2015) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after an extended illness. Born in Alma, GA his parents were Archie and Mildred Troupe Blanton. He is also preceded in death by a son, Patrick Hyers. Ed retired Georgia Pacific after 40 years as a pipe fitter and was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Jesup. He loved fishing and hunting and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Hyers of Hortense; a son, Robert Hyers of Hortense; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa & Leonard Roberts of Hoboken; 3 grandchildren, Tucker Hyers of Hortense, McKenzie Hyers of Fort Mill, SC, and Leela Roberts of Hoboken; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth & Bruce Palmer of Jesup; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (September 16, 2015) starting at 6pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Thursday morning (September 17, 2015) at 11am at Twin Rivers Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Brown, Rev. Loren Bryant, Rev. Jack Sinclair and Rev. Rob Hutto officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Rivers Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean Boatright, Len Davis, Mike Carver, G.W. Knox, Barry Stokes, Ronnie Deloach, Brian Gibson, Tucker Hyers, Leonard Roberts and Robert Hyers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Davis, Carroll Moody, Members of Cowbone Hunting Club, Members of Hortense Fishing Club and Past and Present Employees of Georgia Pacific. Pallbearers are asked to be at the church Thursday morning by 10:30am. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com.
