Hortense – James “Jimmy” Alfred Herrin, Jr., 87, of Hortense passed away early Tuesday morning (May 24, 2022) at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Patterson, GA his parents were James Alfred Herrin, Sr. and Karen Kathryn Arnett Herrin. He is also preceded in death by his stepmother, Bertie Lee Roberson Herrin; his brother, Thomas “Tommy” Herrin; and a sister Janice Herrin Lewis.
Jimmy served in the United States Air force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was a deacon emeritus of Southside Baptist Church in Nahunta where he and his wife were founding members. Jimmy built and owned the first jiffy market in Brantley County which was known as Jimmy’s Jiffy Market. He was self-employed as a TV repairman, farmer, shrimper and a partner and co-owner of H & H Sawing and Lumber. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, hunting and working.
Survivors include his wife of almost 65 years, Nellie Jo Lee Herrin of Hortense; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, David & Patricia Lee Herrin of Waynesville and Daniel & Cindy Herrin of Hortense; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy & Eddie Lee of Waverly; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, James Herrin (Kinsey), Adam Herrin (Ashley), Jordan Thomas, Ansley Herrin, Remington Herrin, Robbie Lee (Beth), Joshua Lee (Alyssa) and Lauran Eades (Kevin); 8 great grandchildren, Flint Herrin, Birdie Herrin, Evy Lee, Rosie Lee, Charlotte Lee, Olivia Lee, William Lee and Lenox Eades; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy & Richard Danielczyk; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening (May 26, 2022) from 6pm – 8pm at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Friday afternoon (May 27, 2022) at 3pm at Southside Baptist Church in Nahunta with Rev. Jerry Johns and Rev. Phillip Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Raulerson Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Lee, James Herrin, Joshua Lee, Adam Herrin, Remington Herrin and William Harris.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
