Hortense- Mr. James "Jimmy D" Carl Dykes, 82 of Hortense, passed away Wednesday (April 8th, 2015) at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Nahunta, GA., his mother was Betsy Dykes. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Sarah Barnes and Lounette Nolan. Mr. Dykes was a member of Hickox Baptist Church and owner of Jimmy D's Country Store. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was an active member of AA, and had been sober since June 2, 1971. Survivors include his 5 sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Steven Dykes (Charlene), of Sterling, James Cary Dykes, of Hortense, Bruce Roger Dykes (Serena), of Brunswick, Joseph Allen Dykes, of Hortense, Walter Eugene Dykes (Tina), of Hortense; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; the mother of his children, Betty C. Davis, of Atkinson. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held Friday evening (April 10, 2015) from 6-8PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning (April 11, 2015) at 10AM at Nahunta First Baptist Church with Dr. W. Derrell Rentz officiating. Burial will follow in Rob Lewis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Justin Dykes, Matthew Dykes, Dylan Dykes, Devin Dykes, Clay Dykes, and Christopher Dykes. Honorary Pallbearers will be the AA Members. Family and Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church Saturday by 9:30AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Brantley Serenity Club; P.O. Box 19 Nahunta, GA. 31553.
