James 'Mike' Michael Herrin

July 19, 1952 — August 18, 2016

Nahunta – James Michael “Mike” Herrin, 64, of Nahunta passed away Thursday evening (August 18, 2016) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross after an extended illness.

Born in Covington, VA his parents are Jane Ellen Harris Herrin of Nahunta and the late George Washington Herrin, Jr. He is also preceded in death by a brother, George Robert Herrin, Sr.

Mike served 5 years in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War and retired after 26 years from the Civil Service at Kings Bay Submarine Base in 2008. After retiring he fulfilled his dream of opening a restaurant, “The Dawghouse”. He also attended Bachlott Church of God and enjoyed golfing, fishing, grilling, watching NASCAR and football, playing guitar, and any social gathering that involved good friends and family. Mike spent much of his time under his shelter where he was happy to entertain and feed anyone that stopped by. Most importantly, He was a wonderful husband, father, and son and will greatly be missed by anyone who’s life he touched.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Drene Johns Herrin of Nahunta; his son and daughter-in-law, Shannon Michael & Jessica Herrin of Nahunta; a daughter and son-in-law, Heather Louise Herrin Roberson (Danny) of Nahunta; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Jane Ellen Harris Herrin of Nahunta; and also several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, brothers-law and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening (August 20, 2016) from 6PM – 8PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon (August 21, 2016) at 2PM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Ion Johns, Bro. David Herrin, and Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Demarus Johns, Dale Johns, Cole Johns, Bobby Roberson, Levi Herrin, Bradley Herrin, Eric Martin, Mike Green, and Charlie White.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
