Mr. James "J.O." Otto Johns, 78,of the Hickox Community died early Saturday morning at the Southeast Georgia Health Systems in Brunswick after a long illness. Born in Hickox, Georgia he was the son of Wiley Elbert and Arizona Batten Johns. He served as a Seabee in the United States Navy and was a member of the Hickox Baptist Church. Mr. J.O. loved his community and served on several boards, the Brantley County Tax Accesser's Board, the Brantley County Planning Commission, and he also served as a Past President of the Boosters Club where he was instrumental in helping get the track paved at the Brantley County Highschool, also was a member of The Georgia Cattlemen's Association, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved farming. Retired from The L.E. Oil Company in Fort Worth, Texas as a Lubrication Engineer , he then worked as a Steam and Pipe Fitter with Local Union #234 in Jacksonville, Florida.Mr. Johns served as a Trustee for The Bethlehem Cemetery also. Preceded in death by his Parents also a Grandson, Barrett Johns, 2-Sisters, Jesse Mae Johns and Juanita Blair, 4-Brothers, Lehman, Oden, Owen and Earl Johns. Survived by his loving wife, Tressa Highsmith Johns, of Hickox, a Son and Daughter-in-law, Greg S. and Joan Johns, of Cherokee River, Florida, a Daughter and Son-in-law, Lisa J. and Alec Jacobs, of Hoboken, a Son , Jeff A. Johns, of Hickox, 6-Grandchildren, Amanda Johns, Torie Johns, Trent Jacobs, Alecia Jacobs, Jay and Jeremy Johns, 2-Sisters, Letha Tucker and Ruby Herrin, both of Nahunta, also several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-9 P.M. at the Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 20, 2010) at 2:00 P.M. from The Hickox Baptist Church with Rev. Ray McMillan and Rev. Don Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jeremy and Jay Johns, Trent Jacobs, Tommy Tucker, Edward Blair, Marvin McWilliams, and Eric Tucker. Honorary will be the Men's Sunday School Class at Hickox Baptist Church. Family request in lieu of flowers donation be made to The Hickox Baptist Church Building Fund, 7224 CaneyBay Rd.
