Waynesville – James “Rusty” Russell Howington, 50, of Waynesville passed away Thursday afternoon (February 25, 2016) at his residence.
Born in Brunswick, GA his parents are James O. and Carol Phillips Howington of Waynesville. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Simmons Phillips; his paternal grandparents, Bishop and Annie Howington; and a mother-in-law, Jeanne Marie Rhoades.
Rusty was a horse trainer and a member of the Ethics committee for the American Ranch Horse Association and the President of the Georgia Ranch Horse Association. He loved horseback riding, training horses,and teaching the 4-H and FFA students about horses. Also he enjoyed painting, photography and research the Native American Heritage.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn Howington of Waynesville; his son, Daniel Lane Howington of Wayensville; a step son, Dusty James Little of Fernandina Beach; a step daughter, Rachel Ann Little of Brunswick; a grandchild, Kaleb Burkhart of Brunswick; his parents, James O. and Carol Howington of Waynesville; a sister and brother-in-law, Terri & Howard Walker of Brunswick; a father-in-law, James Rhoades of Waresboro; a brother-in-law, Robert Rhoades of Waresboro; and also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Monday evening (February 29, 2016) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning (March 1, 2016) at 11am at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery with Rev. Emory Wilson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dusty Little, Robert Rhoades, Rachel Little, Jason Ammons, Joe Drury, and Josh Crum.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
