Jerry Foster Davis, 74, of Hortense died Sunday morning (March 28, 2010) at Southeast Georgia Health System after an extended illness. Born in Screven, GA his parents were Charlie Preston and Ruth Mae Chancey Davis. He is also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Donald Davis and Edward Davis and 2 sisters, Gloria Roberson and Patricia Sloan. Jerry served in the U.S. Army and retired from Okefenokee Rural Electric Membership Corporation. He was also a member of Hortense Church of God of Prophecy and a member of Hortense Fishing Club where he was very active in fishing. Survivors include his wife of 50yrs, Jeanette Davis of Hortense; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Monnie & Barrett Smith of Sevierville, TN, Jerri Ann & Dean Boatwright of Hortense and Doe & Thomas Proudfoot of Mt. Pleasent; 8 Grandchildren and their spouses, Sarolyn Deskins, Nathan & Kristen Smith and Rachel Smith all of Sevierville, TN, Anna & Ben Hammer of Dandridge, TN, Ethan and Austin Boatwright of Hortense, Heather & John Evans of Mt. Pleasent and Hailey & Cody Anderson of Odum, GA; 5 Great Grandchildren, Madison Smith and Evie Deskins of Sevierville, TN and Abby, Aubrey and Sadie Evans all of Mt. Pleasent; a Brother and sister-in-law, Sammy & Becky Davis of Hortense; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening (March 30, 2010)from 6-8PM at Frye Funeral Home , Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning (March 31, 2010) at 11A.M. at Hortense Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Charlie Brown and Rev. Daniel Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Satilla Cemetery in Hortense. Pallbearers will be his nephews Mike Roberson, Charles Roberson, Joseph Roberson, Len Davis, Wayne Davis, Timmy Davis, Bruce Davis and Al Roberson.
