John H. Thrift

Blackshear – Mr. John H. Thrift, 72, of Blackshear passed away Monday evening (August 7, 2017) at Satilla Hospice House in Waycross following an extended illness.

He was a native of Ware County and a lifelong resident of Pierce County. He was employed by Winn Dixie for 35 years as produce manager and assistant manager. He enjoyed softball, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and going to races. He loved his four legged babies, Cookie and Missy and his four legged grandbabies, Prissy, Ginger, Lucy, and Gizmo.

He is preceded in death by his parents Hollie Dean Thrift(father) and Zellie Mae Hutto McDaniel (mother); one brother, Jimmy Thrift; and 2 half brothers, Millard Thrift and Ralph Thrift.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Thrift of Blackshear; 2 daughters , Pamela Thrift Griffin of Nahunta and Marisha Thrift (James) of Waycross; 2 step daughters, Angela Moore (Roger) and Lynn Jones (Gary) both of Nahunta; 8 grandchildren, Austin, Lily (father Roy), Dalton, Brianna, Bryce, Torri, Jayme, and Jimmy; 3 step grandchildren, Dylan, Dakota, and Gauge; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (August 9, 2017) starting from 6PM-9PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

A funeral service will be held Thursday morning (August 10, 2017) at 11AM at the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Tolbert officiating.

Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Darryl Courson, Shannon Griffin, Colby Thrift, Jarvis Barnwell, Craig Perritt, and Brandon Dean. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Davis and Bobby Boatright.

Family and pallbearers are asked to meet at the Funeral Home by 10:30AM Thursday.

Family will be receiving friends at the residence of Pam Griffin, 288 Harvest Rd. Nahunta, GA 31553.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
