Waynesville- Mr. Johnny Robert Rooks, 59, of Waynesville died Monday evening (Apr. 18, 2011) at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Waynesville, GA. He was the son of James Robert and Daisy Taylor Rooks. A member of The Waynesville Baptist Church he enjoyed painting by numbers, fishing and loved his family and spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his loving wife Judy Mercer Rooks, of Waynesville, 2-daughters and a son-in-law, Sarah Rooks Sapp and Michael, Nicole Rooks, all of Waynesville, 2-grandchildren, Michael "Mikey" Sapp and Julie Sapp, both of Waynesville, 2-brothers and a sister-in-law, Franklin and Kim Carter, of Brunswick and Clyde Rooks of Waynesville, 2-sisters and a brother-in-law, Elta Mae Wilson, Ruthie and Irving Nix, all of Waynesville, also several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be Wednesday evening starting at 6 P.M. at The Frye Funeral Home of Nahunta. Graveside services will be held Thursday afternoon (Apr. 21,2011) at 2P.M. in The Mt. Olive Cemetery in Waynesville with Rev. Vance Colley officiating. Pallbearers will be Alex Hall, Bill Grogg, Timmy and Timothy Wilson, Robbie Mercer and Mark Carter. Honorary will be the staff of Heartland Hospice, Geneva Thornton, Marguarite Norwitz, Michelle Thigpen, Marla Allen, J. D. Combs, Beth Ammons and Melissa Gibbs.
