Blackshear- Joseph "Jody" Donald Harter, 63, of Blackshear died early Friday morning (July 8, 2011) at his residence after an extended illness. Born in Jesup, GA his parents were Silas David and Bessie Bell Harter. He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Harold Sutton; 2 brothers, Earnest David and James Alfred Harter; and a sister Nettie Leona Tankersley. Jody was a truck driver for Payne Eason Trucking and served in the United States Army. Also he was a past member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Jesup and enjoyed being with his special friend, Precious, his little dog, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed being outdoors doing yard work, gardening and watching and listening to birds. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Hammond Harter of Blackshear; 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Kendall & Cheryil Watson of LaPorte, TX, Rodney & Jennifer Watson of Terrell, TX, Greg & Mary Watson of Kendledon, TX and Gene & Melissa Frye of Rincon, GA; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Kala & Josh Nettles of Blackshear and Tina & Hank Sutton of Jesup, GA; a brother, Mack Harter of Jesup, GA; a sister Ila Mae Maze of Jesup, GA; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Monday afternoon (July 11, 2011) from 12-2PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. A funeral service will be held Monday afternoon (July 11, 2011) at 2PM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Warnie Nettles officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way Waycross, GA 31501. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
