Waynesville- Joseph Lee McCarthy, 77 of Waynesville, passed away Monday (June 13, 2016) at Hospice of Golden Isles, in Brunswick, GA., following an extended illness.


Born in Blackshear, GA., his parents were Calvin Lee McCarthy and and Vera Jane Cason McCarthy. He was also preceded in death by his wife Betty Sue Daniels McCarthy; 3 brothers, William McCarthy, Ronnie McCarthy, and Ralph “Mac” McCarthy.

Joseph retired from Brunswick Coca Cola as Route Supervisor. He attended Rehoboth Baptist Church, of Blackshear. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his son, Raymond Bruce McCarthy, of Waynesville; his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Lee O’Neal (Jason), of Waynesville; 7 grandchildren, Krystie Thomas, of Jesup, Kelly Geiger (Mikie), of Brunswick, Adrien McGill (Cody), of Raybon, Ginger McCarthy, Dalton O’Neal, of Waynesville, Brittany McCarthy, of Brunswick, Taylor O’Neal, of Waynesville; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ed McCarthy, of Brunswick, Herman McCarthy (Sherry), of Waycross; his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Williams (Kenny), of Darien. Also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday (June 16, 2016) at 10:30AM at Daniels Cemetery with Pastor Danny Stilwell officiating. Visitation will be held at the cemetery thirty minutes prior to the service, beginning at 10AM.

Pallbearers will be Mikie Geiger, Lance Clark, Josh Thomas, Aaron Durrance, Tony Turner, and Joshua Daniels.

Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
