Larry Truman Groover, Sr.

October 24, 1945 — December 23, 2009

Larry Truman Groover, Sr., 64, of Hortense died suddenly Wednesday (December 23, 2009) at his residence after a brief illness. Born in Appling Co., his parents were Lonnie Leroy and Hester Polly Griffis Groover. He is also preceded in death by his wife Hilda Turner Groover and a brother, Edward "Ed" Groover. He was a retired crane operator with Georgia Pacific in Brunswick where he worked 20 plus yrs. Mr. Larry served his Country in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He loved sports, enjoyed NASCAR and Bowling. But most of all he was a great Dad always there when he was needed. Survivors include his 3 children and their spouses, Robbie Carol & Penny Ruis of Jackson City, TN, Mark Anthony & Julie Ruis and Larry Truman Groover, Jr. & Tammy Groover, both of Waynesville; 3 step-children and their spouses, Tina & Kirk Thomas of Valdosta, Stevie & Michelle Lee and Stacey Lee both of Nahunta; 4 grandchildren, Amber, Amy & Kelsey Ruis and Spencer Little; 5 step-grandchildren, Caleb & Ryan Thomas, Nickki, Mandy and Jana Lee ; 3 sisters, Blanche Murray of Waycross, Eula Long of Long Co. and Rudell Lee of Hoboken; a brother and sister-in-law, Carnell & Faye Groover of Waynesville; also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation will be held Saturday evening (December 26, 2009) starting at 6P.M. at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon (December 27, 2009) at 2 P.M. at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Taylor officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Twin Rivers Cemetery in Raybon. Pallbearers will be Shane Witford, Riley McKenzie, Brent Witford, Ashley Lee, Brian Highsmith and Jeffery Murray.
