Laverne Thornton Harrell

Hortense - Mrs. Laverne Thornton Harrell, 72, of Hortense died Friday evening (April 17, 2015) at her residence after an extended illness. Born in Screven, GA her parents were Clyde and Bernice Horne Thornton. She is also preceded in death by a son, Stuart Hancock; 2 daughters, Pam Hancock and Dawn Nail; a great grandchild, Addison Frisk; and a sister, Janice Joyner. Mrs. Laverne was a CNA for Home Health Care before retiring in 2004. She attended the Philadelphia Wesleyan Church and loved reading, traveling and camping. Survivors include her husband, Keith Harrell of Hortense; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny & Trecia Harrell of Mustang, OK, Mike & Marna Hancock of Fernandina Beach, FL and David & Tasha Harrell of Hortense; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Shirlene Harrell of Kingfisher, OK, Kandy Cochran of Kingfisher, OK, Pat & Marvin Norman of Sylvania, GA and Michelle & Jim Leary of Hortense; 30 grandchildren; 29 Great Grandchildren; 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Cheryl Cranell of Blackshear, Dale & Steve Begunich of Jesup, Lynn & Jerry Reddish of Blackshear and Robin Thornton of Blackshear; and also several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held Monday evening (April 20, 2015) starting at 6PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta GA . A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning (April 21, 2015) at 11AM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Stayman officiating. Burial will follow in Hortense Cemetery in Hortense. Pallbearers will be Lawayne Harrell, Jimmy Leary, Lewis Wilder, James Frisk, Geoffrey Jackson, Tristan Harrell, and Sean Macgraw. Honorary pallbearers will be the Philadelphia Wesleyan Church Ladies Sunday School Class. Pallbearers are asked to be at the Chapel Tuesday by 10:30am.
