Leroy Frances Turngren

July 12, 1932 — May 18, 2012

Nahunta-LeRoy Frances Turngren, 79, of Nahunta died Friday morning (May 18, 2012) at Southeast Georgia Health System after an extended illness. Born in Harvey, IL his parents were Elmer & Katherine Meidema Turngren, Sr. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ahrweiler Turngren; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Jones; and 3 brothers, Carl Turngren, Clarence Turngren & Elmer Turngren, Jr. LeRoy was a service man for Browning Farris Industries in Jacksonville and of the Christian faith. Also he loved gardening, watching football, listening to opera music and was an avid reader. LeRoy also enjoyed being outside and just working with his hands. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas & Kristi Turngren of Nahunta; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda & Howard Rhoden of Atlanta and Ann Marie Turngren of Nahunta; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer & Aron Binkley and Phillip Turngren of Jacksonville, Matthew & Sarah Jones and Mark & Chau Jones of Atlanta and Katherine Jones of Minnesota; 4 great grandchildren, Curran Jones, Julia Jones, Christopher Mchood and Kaitlyn Germer; 3 brothers, Leonard Turngren of Nahunta, Johnnie Turngren of Montana and George Turngren of Wisconsin; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon (May 26, 2012) at 1PM at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Johns officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation. Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.fryefh.com.
