Nahunta – Lucille Strickland Parkes, 92, of Nahunta passed away early Wednesday morning (July 11, 2018) at her daughter’s residence in Brunswick after an extended illness.
Born in Nahunta, GA her parents were Joseph Levi Strickland and Sarah Gertrude “Gertie” Highsmith Strickland. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Parkes; a grandson, Christopher Allen Lee; and an infant sister, Lois Strickland.
Mrs. Lucille was a retired teacher and attended the Salthouse Worship Center. She loved sewing, gardening, and cooking.
Survivors include her son, Michael Steven Parkes of Spokane, WA; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah Laurene “Laurie” Parkes Quinn (Darrell) of Warner Robins and Carol Anne Parkes Lee (Mike) of Brunswick; 6 grandchildren, Emily Parkes, Jared Parkes, Erin Parkes, Erica Mehl, Ryan Quinn, and Mitchell Lee; 3 great grandchildren, Levi Mehl, Isaiah Mehl, and Sarah Mehl; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Malcolm Reese Strickland (Young Chun) of Nahunta and John Curtis Strickland (Sondra) of Houston, TX; 2 beloved cats, Sammy and Sally; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Friday evening ( July 13, 2018) from 5PM – 8PM at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon ( July 14, 2018) at 2PM at the Chapel of Frye Funeral Home with Pastor Ashton Ham officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Lee, Darrell Quinn, Mitchell Lee, Ryan Quinn, Vernon Strickland, and Charles Cox.
The family extends to Georgia Hospice Care a deep appreciation and gratefulness for the excellent care and acts of kindness for their mother.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
